How To Navigate Slow Season

Dec 30, 2021

Slow season may be something that you worry about when first going on your own in business. This time of year, you may be feeling a bit discouraged in your efforts to kill the game in your sunless biz. It’s slow season for a lot of us, which basically means in the winter time, the wedding season has slowed down, most people aren’t going out as much, but rather staying in with their cozy blankets. Who can blame them, right!? With cooler temperatures, it just changes the flow of things. Fortunately, it doesn’t last forever and even more fortunately, you have me to help guide you through this time!

Honestly, it’s easy to get into a wee little funk during this time of year when you aren’t seeing as many people chiming into your inbox or on your website to get on yo’ books! But I want you to take a real quick deep breath for me.. “Woo-sah” because every little thing, is gonna be alright - just like Mr. Bob Marley himself said. The fact is, that this slow period is temporary. It is just a seasonal lag, but if you’re new to the sunless industry this may feel like an “oh shit” moment for you. That’s why I want to give you some tips on how you can set yourself up for success and use your time wisely during a slower season of your beauty biz.

1. SET GOALS

This is a great time for you to revisit your goals, decide what still resonates with you and what doesn’t so that you get a really clear vision of where you want to take your business next. During busy season, you’re more likely to be in action mode where you are replying to all the inquiries, booking all the services and being present with all your clients. You don’t have as much time or energy to just sit down and think about strategies and goals that are going to get you to the next level. That’s why these slow seasons can be great for evaluating where you are currently, where you want to go and what it will take to get you there!

2. EXPERIMENT

This is the perfect time to try new things, especially with your marketing efforts! Jump into doing reels on a consistent basis, plan out a content calendar, go Live on Facebook and Instagram every Tuesday morning, join in on some vendor events, etc. Do some research on great ways to reach new audience members or new members in your community and then put it into action. Track your results with these new efforts as you go, this will help you see what works and what doesn’t! During this time you may be surprised at how being consistent with trying new things can really get the ball rolling in some areas of your business that you really weren’t expecting. The great thing is that you can use this time to figure out what works now so that you can get a perfectly flowing system in place during the time when you can’t put as much effort into every little detail as you would during the experimentation phase of finding that new marketing outlet or strategy.

3. VAMP UP YOUR WEBSITE

If you have a website, this is a great time to make updates and add things to it that you didn’t have time to during the busy season. This could look like uploading new photos, changing your layout so that it’s easier to navigate, automate certain things in your website If you don’t already have that or even re-writing some of your copy to help connect with your website visitors in a way that makes them say, “I need to book NOW!” If you don’t have a website yet, use this time to make one! This is basically your online storefront, so it’s important that you put time into creating this space for your clients and prospects to visit when they’re looking into you. This also gives you some more time to do research on things like SEO, which will help your website be easier to find when someone is looking for sunless artists in your area.

These things are a lot easier to do when you’re not as focused on taking clients every second, day in and day out. Take this time with joy because the down time you have when things get a little slower is the perfect time for you to plant seeds that will help you level the F up, babe! I know that different parts of the world experience different busy and slow seasons and if this is something you are currently feeling now, remember to use this to your advantage!
