Taking Messy Action With Slay The Spray Attendee, Kelsey LaVergne

Are you waiting for THAT feeling? The feeling of everything being aligned, the feeling of “perfect” timing or just the feeling of being READY? There’s a common theme I see from a lot of beauty biz babes who say they want to make big changes in their business. They talk themselves out of taking action because they feel like they should feel ready for the next big step or investment that will allow them to leap into their dream life. They are waiting for that magical moment where everything clicks together seamlessly. That there will be some sort of sign from above showing them that this is what they should do. Everytime I see this type of mindset play out, do you want to know what actually ends up happening after someone delays their action because they are waiting for the “perfect” time? This mindset keeps these bis owners waiting forever and delays or even halts their progress toward their dreams altogether. Taking the next step isn’t about waiting for there to be a clear cut signal and it's definitely not about everything in your life finally going smoothly enough for you to go after your dreams. It has nothing to do with any outside factor whatsoever!

Finding the “perfect” time is what you DECIDE it to be. It’s when you’re so sick of throwing pasta at a wall and waiting to see what sticks. When you’ve exhausted resources time and time again, but still get the same outcome and you’re finally done watching other people in your industry make it big while you’re barely making ends meet. You get to decide when the right time is.

Below, past Slay The Spray attendee, Kelsey LaVergne, owner of Bronze Allure Spray Tan in Kalamazoo, Michigan shares her experience with Slay The Spray over the years:

“My journey into the sunless industry began back in 2019 when I went to Kelly’s first live event, Wake Up To Level Up, in San Diego, California. At the time of the event it had not even seriously crossed my mind to start my own spray tanning business. I had followed Kelly online for a period of time beforehand and once I saw that she was putting on a women’s empowerment event, I knew I had to join! I immediately bought my ticket and booked my flight without thinking twice about it. That event was the catalyst to a journey that would completely change my life over the next four years. A few months after I arrived back home in Michigan from the event, I had officially launched my own mobile spray tanning business even without knowing what the hell I was doing. At the time I was working a full time office job, but I knew that my soul was telling me that I needed so much more, I just didn’t know what that was until I went to Wake Up To Level Up. Every year after that I have made it my mission to attend Kelly’s live Slay The Spray Events because of the impact that her very first event had on me. I’m never disappointed with the amount of golden nuggets I’ve been able to take away that I’ve used to help grow my business. Not to mention, I’ve met incredible people in the sunless industry from all around the country who are there for support whenever I need it.

This last Slay The Spray Event that took place in 2022 was really one that absolutely changed the game for me. I always tell people that this event changed my life. If it wasn’t for attending Slay The Spray 2022, I truly don’t think I would have had the courage to take the steps to expand my business, which inevitably allowed me to go full time as a self employed beauty biz babe in April of this year. 

Prior to this event I was still working part time in an office setting and running my spray tan business on the side. With a background in marketing, I had just started dipping my toes into offering content writing services to other women in the beauty industry when I was given the opportunity to write for Spray Tan Class and X-Tan. After having some enlightening conversations with incredible women at Slay The Spray 2022, I felt a fire that was lit inside of me like never before. I finally saw how I could use my talents in writing and marketing to offer services that were needed in the sunless industry to help elevate other women’s businesses and save them time from doing the tasks they didn't feel aligned with. When I got back from Slay The Spray I went to work creating packages to offer other beauty businesses to help with their content writing. To my surprise, I got a lot of interest in the services and was able to sign a few clients. My new marketing services accompanied with the spray tanning services I had already been offering in my business allowed me to finally take my business full time after 3.5 years of working toward that exact goal. 

My biggest takeaway from the years I’ve spent running my business is that there will never be a “right” time to go after what you want in life. Nothing will ever work out exactly how you envision it, but the way to make real change for yourself is to just go after what you want and figure it out as you go! Although I’ve been able to go full time in my business, there’s still SO much that I don’t know and continue to learn, especially after entering an entirely new realm through my marketing services. If I wouldn’t have invested in my vision by going to Slay The Spray and decide to take that experience, to essentially, jump off the ledge while building a parachute on the way down through expanding my business, who knows how long it would have taken me to accomplish what I’ve been able to accomplish over this last year since attending Slay The Spray 2022. I encourage every woman who’s serious about making a change in their business and in their life to find a way to attend Slay The Spray and then take that knowledge to make messy action in your business. That’s when real growth happens.”
