Why You're Not Getting More Clients

Sep 03, 2022

The TOP thing I hear in the Beauty Business Babes Facebook Group is, “why am I not getting more clients?” It’s also the one thing that I think I will always get asked about the most. It can be extremely frustrating to feel like you’re on the hustle and grind 25/8 and still are not seeing the results you hope for. The struggle here is that if we don’t have clients coming in, then we don’t have a business, right!? As entrepreneurs we put so much time, energy and money into our businesses, oftentimes having other jobs and family responsibilities at the same time, that we get overworked to the point where we feel we just want to throw in the towel. Sound familiar? When you feel like you’re putting your all into building a clientele and you’re not seeing the needle move, it can be discouraging. But, I want you to remember, you deserve to have full books and you WILL get there! You just may need a little bit more guidance on how to actually get the phone ringing off the hook with clients that can’t wait to book with you. So, let’s get into why you may be having trouble with getting more clients.

Targeting the wrong audience

This is HUGE! You may be talking to everyone and their momma or you may just be talking to the wrong people in general. Both of these situations are not ideal and will cause you some hardship when it comes to booking clients. Once you know who you should be talking to specifically, make sure that you come up with an appropriate brand that will appeal to that person. You may be currently using the wrong colors or messaging and it is not translating well to the people you should be marketing to. For example, if you’re trying to appeal to an older crowd, such as in the Boomer age range, you would want to use calming brand colors versus  bright contrasting colors that would appeal to a younger group of people in the Gen Z age bracket.

Not Being Visible Online

We all know that it is a digital world we live in. So if you’re not easily accessible online, you’re not going to be booking as many clients as you could. This goes for being visible through Google and Yelp. I know that some people have a love/hate relationship with Yelp, but it can be a really positive thing for your business! You also want to pay attention to where you show up on Google. Pull up an incognito browser so your search history doesn’t interfere and research spray tans in your area and see where you’re at on google. If you’re not where you want to be, work on improving the SEO on your website. You can do this on your own, but it can take A LOT of time and energy, so you may want to look into hiring this out to an expert!

You are not being convenient

People like things to be easy for them. If they have to spend too much time and energy on doing something, then they will go look for an option that is straightforward and easy to figure out. Make sure that your clients understand where they can book. It is unlikely that someone will physically type in your website, so make sure it is in your bio on social media. Online booking is also crucial! There should not be any reason in this day and age to not have a booking system because it will save you so much time and energy with going back and forth in messages to get someone booked. The people who want to book with you should not have to guess on where to go, so make it very clear on your website where you book and remove clutter, distractions and fluff that is unnecessary. Simplicity sells in this aspect. You should also check in on your website’s tech from time to time to make sure that everything is working correctly. There’s nothing more frustrating than trying to do something online and having it not work because of something as simple as a broken link.

The number one thing you should take away from all of these tips is that you should make it EASY for the right people to be able to book with you! Make sure that your brand is speaking clearly to the audience that you are specifically targeting and that those people know exactly how to get their appointment on your calendar in the most simplified way possible. I hope that these tips help you and that you’re able to go about making some changes in your beauty biz that will have new clients hitting your line in no time!
